Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Delbert Parks, 85, Lawton passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Healdton, Oklahoma. He was born November 12, 1933 in Davidson, Oklahoma to Clarence and Louise (Marshall) Parks. Delbert attended Oklahoma School for the Blind in Muskogee.

He met Elsie Derifield, also totally blind, at a training school for the blind in Little Rock, Arkansas. Delbert later asked her to marry him and they were married on April 3, 1957 in Durant, Oklahoma. She traveled from her home in Waterloo, Iowa to Durant alone by bus to marry him.

Elsie passed away February 10, 2002. Delbert was a concession stand operator for 56 years. Two years in Durant, two years in Frederick, and 51 years in Lawton.

He was an avid baseball fan especially the Houston Astros. He was an Astros fan from inception and also a Texas Rangers fan. The 2017 Houston Astros season and World Series win was a huge thrill for him.

He had an incredible recall of past games and statistics. Delbert denied being a Dallas Cowboys fan but never missed a game. He loved it when his home was filled with family and any opportunity for a celebration.

He loved music, just about any kind, but particularly country music and western swing. He could name most any older country song in three notes and tell you who was singing. His friends nicknamed him Cowboy because of his love of country music.

He could play guitar and had a great voice. He loved people and never met a stranger. Delbert is survived by his daughter, Carla Dice of Healdton, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Shawn Seals, Zach Jones and Josh Jones, eight great grandchildren, a brother, Jerry Parks and wife Phyllis of Duncan and other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, Leanne Arlene Beach, two sons, Roger Lee Parks and James Ray Parks. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www. stjude.org or by mail at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
