Ross Mack Taylor, age 69, was born on January 20, 1950 in Fort Belvoir, VA to John Frank and Martha Geraldine Taylor.
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Ross passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 17, 2019 in Rochester, MN. Ross was the second born in a family of 4 and like many military brats, spent time in multiple cities and countries including Panama, Fort Hood, TX and Germany where he eventually graduated from Heidelberg High School. Ross spent the majority of his school years in the Lawton/Ft.
Sill area attending Geronimo Road Elementary, Westwood Elementary, Central Junior High and 1 year at Lawton Senior High school. While in grade school, Ross was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America and Troop 176 at First Christian Church. He received many achievements as a scout and as a troop leader, including Life Scout, Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge.
He served on the Black Beaver Council Board under the direction of Jerry Orr, was Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 176 and served as Co-Director of Scouting Summer Day Camps with long time friend David Dennis. Ross was instrumental in starting the scouting program at Hugh Bish Elementary when his son became of scouting age. Ross was a devoted scout leader and was involved in training adults to be leaders in the Lawton area.
Ross loved the outdoors. He was an accomplished builder, hunter, skier, camper, biker and jeeper. He loved and honored God’s creation and passed that heritage on to many who came into contact with him.
Ross also loved music. He played the trumpet from an early age and was a member of the Lawton Senior High School marching band and ROTC at Cameron University. His love of music overflowed to his family, especially his son and daughter, who have fond memories of riding in his classic Willys Jeep and Triumph Stag listening to The Beach Boys.
In his personal life, he loved playing the trumpet at church and accompanying caroling groups to shut-ins or nursing homes. He was an active member and served as part of the sound ministry for over 30 years at First Christian Church, Western Hills Christian Church and Grace Fellowship Church, where he helped transition musical worship into a new era of sound design. Ross was a faithful and quiet servant that would arrive early and stay late making sure things were always ready for services.
He was a devoted follower of Christ and lived his faith daily at home, at work and in the face of debilitating illness. Professionally, Ross was a Sales Manager for many years and began his career in 1977 with General Foods. He began serving retail grocery stores across the state of Oklahoma and transitioned to serving military commissaries across Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
He wore many hats, but Ross loved being in the field, interacting with customers and training new Sales Reps. Even with his grueling travel schedule and responsibilities, he was a devoted family man and always present for his children throughout various sports, music, school and church activities. Ross is survived by his wife of 45 years, Trevelyn, mother-in-law Phyllis Ralston, daughter Amanda Brook Harris and grandson Jonathan Ross Harris, son Aaron Ross Conley Taylor and daughter-in-law Deidre Taylor, sister Shirley Ripley and brother-in-law Jerry Ripley, nieces Nicole Burroughs and Janice Re, cousins Shane, Karla and Mitch McLaury, Megan Lafferty, Marty Sanger McCharon, Dana and Mark Anderson and so many dear friends and co-workers.
