Dolores “Dee” H. Hoose Dolores “Dee” H. (Altherr) Hoose, 91, a longtime resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family, following an extended battle with dementia. She was born February 9, 1928 in Tipton, the youngest child of Edward and Susan (Schmitt) Altherr. She attended St. John the Baptist grade school and graduated from Tipton High School in 1945.

As a young woman, Dee sang with her sisters in the Altherr Trio and spent several summers at the Indiana Ballroom dancing to big band and swing music. During this time, she worked in the office at the Indiana Gas Co. Dee married James (Jim) Hoose on June 7, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton. They shared nearly 61 years of marriage together.

Dee was a homemaker while her children were young. She later returned to the workforce as a receptionist for Dr. Martin Hanson and then as a title clerk at Dan Young Tipton LLC until her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society.

Dee was known as an excellent seamstress and for her homemade noodles. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, knitting and watching the Pacers, Colts and IU basketball. Dee is survived by her husband Jim; children Amy Tourbier of Wisconsin, Matt (Mary Ann) Hoose of Elwood and Jill (Scott) Weddell of Tipton; five grandchildren, Shane Hoose of Kentucky, Krista Hoose (Curtis Stout) of Elwood, Cameron Weddell of Kokomo, Alec Weddell of Tipton and Grayson Weddell of Tipton.

A sister, Martha Coppock of Tipton, sister-in-law Louann (Bert) Poi of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Bruce Tourbier, brothers Lawrence and Paul Altherr and sisters Katherine Kritsch, Agnes Massey and Mary Gootee. The family would like to thank all her caregivers over the last several months for their love and support.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm with the rosary recited at 7:30 pm at Dunnichay Funeral Home in Elwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dan Duff officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
