Obituary for Don Heyer Cocoa, Florida — Don Heyer, formerly of Haines City, Florida passed away on June 28, 2018 in Melbourne, Florida. He was 86. He was born on September 11, 1931 in Vineland, New Jersey and moved to Haines city when he was 12 years old and finally to Cocoa some 60 years ago.

Don was an Operational Planner for 31 years at Lockheed Aircraft Corp. , in Cape Canaveral, Florida and a member of Cocoa Presbyterian Church, where he drove a golf cart for 11 years assisting members to and from church. He was a United States Marine Corps.

Veteran, being discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was a proud veteran and had participated in a Honor Flight. He had to wake up early drive to Orlando and fly to Baltimore, Maryland and then drive to Washington, DC, where he got to visit memorials dedicated to men and women such as him. After a long flight home, he and his fellow veterans were welcomed home as “Heroes”, as they justly deserved.

Don was also an avid golfer and a self taught master craftsman. When his family talks about him they described him as an Awesome Father, The Best Dad and an Awesome Husband. As a matter of fact most remembered was when he was diagnosed with cancer, he did not let it wane his spirits, he simply said, ” So, I’m 86 years old and have lived with the love of my life for 64 years”, and ultimately it was 65 years, as Don passed away on their 65th wedding anniversary.

Don is predeceased by his parents, George E. Heyer and Fannie Luker Heyer; son-in-law, William Holcomb; brother, Edward William Henry; sisters, Margaret Purcell, Verna Case, Irene Shea and granddaughter, Heather Heyer. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Willis Heyer; Son, Mark Heyer; daughter, Linda Holcomb; grandson, Nicholas Heyer and great granddaughter, Kaydence Vivona-Heyer. A visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2018 from 3 pm until the funeral at 4 pm at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City.
