Donna Kay Sorrick died peacefully in her sleep on April 27, 2018, joining her Heavenly family. She died being fully prepared to meet her Lord and Savior. Born December 28, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Mayme and Charles Routte, Donna was one of four children.

She grew up in Indianapolis, IN and New Smyrna Beach, FL, and graduated from high school at Daytona Beach, FL. She met and married Thomas M. Sorrick in Daytona Beach on October 22, 1950. They spent their honeymoon driving to Anchorage, Alaska where Tom was employed with the FAA.

They later moved to King Salmon, and lived in Illiamna, Homer, and Anchorage, AK. They moved permanently to Pellston, MI in 1962. After Tom retired, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home with their grandchildren, visiting with family and friends, and researching their family history.

Her family gave her the greatest joys, and she and Tom rarely missed an event in their children’s or grandchildren’s lives. Donna was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Petoskey where she was organist. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and played piano for church services at Tendercare of Cheboygan and Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs.

Her faith in God and her church family sustained her through hard times and provided great comfort to her. Following her stroke, Donna faced life with dignity and grace, never quitting or complaining. She was our inspiration.

The smallest thing gave her pleasure and most everything was wonderful. She had an infectious laugh, great wit, and a sunny disposition. For years Donna kept a journal and was a prolific letter writer as befit her times.

They have provided much comfort to the family. She believed in documenting everything and rare was the moment when a camera wasn’t in evidence. After years of having a camera pointed at them, her children are now glad to have those photos for remembrance and documentation.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Tom, son Tommy, and sister Betty Jones. She is survived by her children, Linda (Ed) Sorrick, Sterling, Alaska, Cindy (Todd) Temple, Pellston, MI, Patti Sorrick, Petoskey, MI, and Robert Sorrick, Reynoldsville, WV; granddaughters, April (Chris) Kelley, Kenya, Jennifer (Ryan) Flynn, and Christina (Eric) McClees, Petoskey; great grandchildren, Kelley and Jaxon McClees, Logan and Collin Flynn, and Willa Rostron. She is also survived by a brother, Charles (Ginny) Routte of Ormond Beach, FL, and sister, Mary (Leonard) Everidge of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Mark Drinkall and Pastor Bob Elder on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Petoskey. The family would like to thank American House and Advisacare for their most excellent care and dedication. Their relationships truly made our mom’s last years comfortable and memorable.

We thank Hospice of Michigan for their professionalism and respect for our mom. Thank you also to Vital Care and Comfort Care.
