Obituary for Doris Mears (Cantrell) Mrs. Doris Lillian Cantrell Mears, age 77, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Saturday (July 7, 2018) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born October 15, 1940 in Whitewood, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Watie Horn Cantrell. Doris was a homemaker, teacher, and senior companion.
She enjoyed spending time in Augusta, Georgia and was a devoted Christian. She loved quilting, listening to Gospel music and reading her Bible. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Mears, whom she married on October 21, 1964, as well as her son, Steven Isadore Mears.
Survivors include three sons, James Richard Mears, Jr. and Christopher Allen Mears both of Virginia, and Michael Keith Mears and wife, Brandie of Blue Springs, Missouri; one daughter, Debra Michelle Boyd of Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Karol Mears; three grandchildren, Brandon Boyd, Mason Mears, and Mia Mears; step-grandchildren, Brandon Metcalf, April Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Hannah Boyd, and Edgerrin Brown; special aunts, Nora Thompson and Dora Barnes of Tipp City, Ohio; several great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia, with Rev. Carl Howell officiating.
Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doris Mears Memorial Fund, c/o Honaker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1620, Honaker, Virginia 24260.
