Obituary for Phyllis Lester (Shepherd) Mrs. Phyllis Jean Lester, age 72, of Keen Mountain, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (October 16, 2018) at her home. Born February 25, 1946 in Grundy, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James Zed and Nevada Lowe Shepherd. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Guiding Light Church in Mavisdale, Virginia.

She enjoyed sewing and quilting, but most of all spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Frank Lester and Teresa Renee Lester, one sister, Lois Israel, and two brothers, Clarence Shepherd and Eddie Shepherd. Survivors include her husband of fifty-six years, Howard Lester of the home; one son, Jessee Lester of the home; daughters, Loretta Lester Boyd of Richlands, and Debbie Perkins and husband, Sonny; three sisters, Brenda Baldwin of Kingsport, Barbara Ray of Honaker, and Jennifer Roark and husband, Ricky of Rosedale; one brother, Doug Shepherd and friend, Peggy of Honaker; four grandchildren, Amanda Boyd, Jeremy Perkins, Richard Keen, and Andrea Keen; ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Phillip Imel and Rev. Sonny Perkins officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lowe Cemetery at Drill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jessee Lester, Richard Keen, Doug Shepherd, Ricky Roark, Ira Lowe, and Steve “Rooster” Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Perkins and Bill Payne.
