Douglas Clay Lawrence , December 12, 1935 — November 14, 2018

Douglas Clay Lawrence, 82, of Martinsville, VA passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home. He was born in Leatherwood on December 12, 1935 to the late Samuel M. and Lottie Holley Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Lawrence; and sister, Dorothy Aaron.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Manning Lawrence of the home; daughter, Debbie Robertson (Charlie) of Fork Mountain; sons, Deane Lawrence (Bonnie) of Leatherwood, David Lawrence… Read More » of Winchester and Dana Lawrence of Danville; brothers, Roy and James Lawrence, and Jerry Holley all of Martinsville. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kristy Thornhill, Shelby Rogers, and Jessica Robertson; and five great-grandchildren, Mason Thornhill, Logan Thornhill, Liam Rogers, Tristan Rogers, and Aubrey Tate. Mr. Lawrence was a member of Granberry United Methodist Church in Leatherwood most of his life and served as a Lay Speaker, Sunday School Teacher, and MYF Leader.

He was an active member of Chatmoss Baptist Church and enjoyed serving as an usher until declining health. He was employed by Pannill Knitting Company as a Supervisor for 32 years and later retired from Tultex Corp. He was a Charter Member of Dyers Store Vol.

Fire Dept. and had served as Treasurer. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Rodney Houston officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
