Elizabeth P. Bergbower, 86, of Hanover Township, PA, passed away Monday July 9, 2018 at her home. Born April 24, 1932, in Easton, PA, she was a daughter of the late E. Burd and Hilda (Kramlich) Pursell. Betty’s life dream was to become a nurse, but being too young after graduation she worked her first job at Baker Chemical in the quality control lab.

She attended Lafayette College, the former Churchman’s Business College, and Northampton Community College. She also worked at the testing lab of the former Dixie Cup Co. in Wilson Borough. Betty went on to be a United Airlines stewardess and was elected secretary of all the airlines in the United States that belonged to the Steward & Stewardess Division of the Airline Pilots Association.

She was a member of the United Airlines Clipped Wings Association and the United Airlines Retired Employees Association. Betty was also a member of the Bethlehem Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. Betty donated the beautiful fountain at St. Luke’s Hospital Anderson Campus in memory of her mother and father.

She is survived by two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her first husband, C. Glen Nyman who passed away in 1976, her second husband Jack Nichols who passed away in 1995 and her third husband Thomas Bergbower, who passed away in 2001. All three were pilots for United Airlines.

A brother, Robert Burd Pursell, also preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held at 4pm Saturday, July 21, 2018 in Northampton Memorial Shrine, 3051 Green Pond Road, Easton. Arrangements are by the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson Borough.
