Ervin’s Obituary Ervin Helget, age 80, of New Ulm passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 of ALS at the New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019 the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice Helget; son, Kelly (Teresa) Helget, Ely, MN; daughters, Shery Moody, Mankato, MN, Dawn (Michael) Schoenstedt, Maui, HI; grandchildren, Jason (Kaylee) Moody, Jamie (Tom) Randall, Jesse Moody, Cori Helget, Amy Helget, Nicole Helget, Greg Helget, Sophia Schoenstedt and Nicholas Schoenstedt; 11 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rosemary Kral and Valeria Schiller both of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Darla Helget. Ervin Helget was born April 7, 1938 in Sleepy Eye to Wenzel and Clara (Schroepher) Helget. He grew up on the family farm near Sleepy Eye.

He attended country school District #28 and also attended St. Mary’s in Sleepy Eye. He met the love of his life Janice Woratschka at Georges Ballroom in 1956 they were married on October 7, 1958 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He was employed at several places as a truck driver.

Worked at Glendenning Motorways in Mankato from 1970 until the company closed up, he then worked for Kraft Transportation in New Ulm from 1983 till he retired in on April 30, 1999. His most passionate hobby was a huge record collection, he loved music. He collected albums from auctions and thrift stores.

He enjoyed old time, Cajun, bluegrass and his favorite was old classic country music. He traveled many places his most favorite was Alaska. He was a sociable person he loved to visit, often going to go get a loaf of bread and returning home an hour later.

He played cards with family and friends, 500 and sheephead. He was a member of several card groups. He was a caring and generous person; he will be missed by his family and friends.
