Walter “Spud”‘s Obituary Walter “Spud” Ellanson, age 82, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. Pastor Sarah Taylor will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. To leave an online condolence for the family, or to sign the guestbook, please visit: www. mvfh.org Walter is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Katherine Ellanson; daughters, Brenda Ellanson of Hanska, Becky (Bill) Barrett of Hanska, Beth Bontjes of Hutchinson; son, Blake (Melissa) Ellanson of New Ulm; grandchildren, Zach Barrett, Kjerstin Sullivan, Saydi Booth, Savannah Bontjes, Riley Ellanson; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Huntley, Hadley Barrett, and soon-to-be baby Sullivan; sisters, Ethel Miller of Savage, Garnett (Warren) Anderson of Maple Grove, Suzie Holland of North Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Jim Funk, Donny Miller, and Dennis Holland. Walter Leslie Ellanson was born June 4, 1936 to Ethelbert and Ella (Lee) Ellanson in Hanska. He graduated high school from Hanska, where he met Katherine Solberg.

The couple got married on October 10, 1958 in St. James and their union was blessed with 4 children. Walter spent his career working at Ellanson Bus Lines and working as a Custodial Engineer at the public school in Hanska until his retirement. He also drove truck for New Ulm Wholesale.

Reddemann & Williams, and Pete Hoffmann, as well as working as a firefighter in Hanska. Walter, or “Spud,” loved sports, specifically baseball. He was an avid fan of the Twins and enjoyed playing catcher in his earlier years.

Walter also enjoyed fishing for bullheads with his family, and going on car rides and vacations with his Katherine. He absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of his family and friends.
