Eugene Franklin Carpenter, 86, husband of the late Mary Sheila McNeill Carpenter, of 115 Quail Haven Drive, Walhalla, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019, at Oconee Memorial Hospital. A native of Rockingham, NC, Mr. Carpenter was the son of the late Fred Jackson and Mattie Burr Carpenter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

While serving he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and was the 3917th Air Police. Mr. Carpenter later retired as a shop supervisor at Valenite. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his son: Eugene D. Carpenter (Linda); daughter: Debbie Howe (Stan); brothers: Bill Carpenter and Ronnie Carpenter (Jackie); sisters: Virginia Harrelson, Hazel Johnson and Margaret Patrick; grandchildren: Stacy N. Massey and Harold E. Spurlock; and great-grandchild: Chloe A. Spurlock.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his daughters: Cindy L. Carpenter and Kim M. Spurlock; and grandson: Gary D. Spurlock. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 25, 2019, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, prior to the service, at Davenport Funeral Home.
