James Lester Long, 87, husband of Mary Ellen Shirley Long, of Seneca, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Seneca, SC, Mr. Long was the son of the late Fred Henry and Hassie Mae Davis Long. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Long worked as a loom fixer at Abney Mills in Newry and then a supervisor at J.P. Stevens Utica Plant where he retired. He was a member of Newry Church of God. In addition to his wife, Mr. Long is survived by his sons: Rick Long (Lois) of Seneca, Bryan Long (Kathy) of Anderson, Tracy Long (Kim) of Seneca and Dennis Long of Seneca; brothers: Dean Long of Walhalla and Jimmy Long of Seneca; sisters: Charlotte Henson of Seneca and Elevylene Long of Westminster; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his brothers: Levis “Beaver” Long and Foster Long; and sister: Shelby Albertson. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anderson Cancer Association, 215 Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
