Obituary for Eugene H. McDurmon Eugene H. “Gene” McDurmon, 89, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his home. Gene was born October 12, 1928 in Posey County, IN to the late Leonard H. and Anna Louise (Thielman) McDurmon.

He was a longtime member of St. James West United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Crusader’s Class at the church. He worked as a tool maker at Benerson Corporation and Apex Tool and Manufacturing before his retirement. Gene was a 1946 graduate of Reitz High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He enjoyed working with his hands making and repairing things and woodworking. Surviving Gene are his wife of 64 years, Darlene (Vaughn) McDurmon; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Mike Gilkey of Evansville and Lynn and Brent Payne of Jasper, IN; three grandchildren, Alex Payne, Angela Gilkey and April Payne as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol Louise and Stacy Givens.

Funeral services for Gene will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Gene Backes officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt.

Vernon, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James West United Methodist Church, 3101 Hillcrest Terrace, Evansville, IN 47712.
