Obituary for Mr. Eugene Walenczyk Eugene Walenczyk, age 91, of Gambills, MD passed away peacefully with his five children by his side on August 31, 2018. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, son of Benjamin and Julia Walenczyk. At 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and then became a soldier in the US Army serving during WWII.

He became a union roofer Local 8 NYC, later owning several successful roofing and construction companies. His philosophy was to work hard, do whatever you need to get the job done right, and believe in yourself and your dreams. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Jane Kotowicz and moved to Nanuet, NY where they proudly raised five children and put them all through college, emphasizing the importance of a good education.

They next moved to Pittsfield, MA. He served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister at The Holy Family Church, and later a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church. Following his children, they moved to Loudonville, NY, and then Gambrills, MD where he was a devoted member of St Joseph’s Church in Odenton.

His pride and joy were his six grandsons, always wanting to talk about their schools, sports, music and accomplishments. His hobbies included fishing and playing handball with his brother in law Walter at the Pittsfield Y. He enjoyed talking about and playing Craps at the casinos. In addition, he enjoyed collecting tools and wood of any shape and size, using his talents to complete various home projects including building an addition to his house and proudly building furniture for his children.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Gene (Brenda), Donna, Susan (Charlie), Kathy (Bryan), Joanne; his loving grandsons Alex, Brandon, Chris, Henry, Cayden and Bret; his sister in law Marie Kotowicz; nieces Patty, Joan, Ann and Diane. He is predeceased by his wife Jane of 64 years, his sister Sophie, brother Frank, and brother in laws Frank Berg and Walter Kotowicz, and his nephew, Kevin Kotowicz. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Eugene Walenczyk will be Saturday, September 8, 2018 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
