FRANK B. SMITH, 93, of Springfield, passed away at Oakwood Village on Saturday evening, April 7, 2018, following several months of failing health. He was born in Salem, Virginia on November 6, 1924, the son of the late James and Goldie (Beverly) Smith. Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the 34th Tank Battalion in the European Theater.

He retired as the railroad operations supervisor from WPAFB following 36 years of service. He was a life-member of VFW… Read More » Post 1031 where he served in many capacities over his 71 years of membership. He is survived by two sons, Frank B. (Janet) Smith Jr. and Michael L. Smith, both of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Blauzdis, Brett Bennett, Jeffrey Smith, Frank Smith III, Amanda Rodgers, Kathy Hess, Michelle Gibson, and Steven Gibson; numerous great grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phoebe A. (Lusk) Smith; step-father, Marshall L. Maxey; a daughter, Beverly Rodgers; grandson, Douglas Smith; a sister, Xie Jones; and a brother, Norris Smith. The family wishes to thank Frank’s neighbors and Gloria and Jim Finch for their care and friendship. Frank’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW 1031 Building Fund, 1237 E. Main St., Springfield, OH 45503.
