Obituary of Fred Steinbach Longtime Glenwood resident Fred W. Steinbach passed away at his home on July 2, 2018. He was 91 years old. Fred was born in Weippe, Idaho to Veneta (Odle) and Fred Willis Steinbach on April 17, 1927.

When Fred was about three years old, he traveled from Idaho to Camp 7 (near Appleton) with his mother and baby brother to join his father who had moved there for work. Near the age of ten, Fred and his family moved to Glenwood. He began working at age twelve for Osmar Kuhnhausen on his ranch.

Fred also worked at the roundhouse at Camp Draper Springs, firing up the locomotives and other duties. On September 21, 1945 he married Katherine Throop. Fred worked for twenty years with J. Neils and St. Regis before logging on his own.

He logged anywhere from Bickleton to Mount St. Helens. Fred loved to work his cattle, rodeo and riding horses. He also liked deer and elk hunting and flying his plane with his dog by his side.

Fred was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years. He will be missed by his children and their spouses, Christina and Ernest Smith of Mollala, Oregon, Carole and Gerald Johnson, Marilyn and Michael Scott, Dwight and Raylene Steinbach and Bruce and Raelene Steinbach all of Glenwood; 17 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine Steinbach, brother George Steinbach, and sisters Veneta Dean and Merdith Smith.

A funeral service will be held at the Glenwood School on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m. with burial following at Mount Adams Cemetery in Glenwood.
