Gary Allen Weldon February 23, 1938 – April 02, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card On April 2, 2018, after a twenty-year battle with the debilitating disease Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome, God called to Heaven Gary Allen Weldon at the age of eighty. Gary was born in Butte, MT Feb 23rd, 1938, to John (Jack) and Clara Weldon, the third of five boys. He grew up on the hill and attended St Lawrence O’Toole Catholic grade school.
He graduated from Butte Central high school and was an adamant Maroon fan. Gary was active in many sports and two of his football teams were inducted into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame–Classes of 1955 and 1956. Growing up, much of his summers were spent working on “The Ranch”, his grandparent’s Marcel and Bridget Marcinkowski’s ranch in Twin Bridges, MT.
Early on, a love for fishing and hunting was born. Upon graduating Butte Central, Gary enlisted in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge, he went to work driving haul trucks for the Anaconda Company until the mine closed in 1983.
He drove school buses for School District #1 serving the kids of Roosevelt drive as his main route and he worked numerous extra shifts transporting Bulldog sports teams around the State. Gary then drove Butte Silver Bow City Buses until his disease forced an early retirement. He married Rose Marie Rebich and they had three children Dan, Tedd, and Todd.
They led a life with many sporting, camping, fishing, hiking trips and vacations across the West. Gary coached the boys’ sports teams and helped many Blaine Mustangs and North West Little League athletes hone their skills. He was a longtime member and former Captain of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Dept.
He loved being outdoors and was very talented mechanically. He later re-married his angel Kathy McDermott. Together they enjoyed twenty-six beautiful years with an inseparable bond.
Kathy’s Love for Gary was truly selfless as she provided his primary care through many difficult years. Gary’s ability to enjoy retirement was cut short by a disease, that left his mind and dreams very much alive, but a body that could not deliver. He spent much of his later years enjoying his time with Kathy and grandkids, painting, photography, chasing gold, and making countless fishing lures to land fish big and small.
He loved many, forgave all, never spoke of life not being fair, and fought, fought, fought to the end. We will Miss You Partner! Gary was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Clara Weldon, brothers George (Bud) Weldon, John (Sonny) and Lois Weldon, nephews Timmy and Shawn Weldon, step-daughter Amy Cunningham, and special uncle/aunt Charlie and Martha Day.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Weldon, brothers Ken (Aleda) Weldon and Bob (Karen) Weldon, brothers/sisters-in-law Kay Weldon, Lee McDermott, Peggie (Van) Marjamag, Tim (Laurie) McDermott and Dave (Steph) McDermott, children Dan (Brandi) Weldon, Tedd (Sarah) Weldon, Todd Weldon, Blaine (Jeanette) Cunningham and Shane (Tracy) Cunningham, grandchildren Regan, Prestynn, Isaiah, and Mathew Weldon, Bradley Adreon, and Danny, Courtney, Cole, Cein and Camrie Cunningham. Friends are asked to join the family on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, after 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 329 W Mercury. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.
A further celebration of Gary’s life will be held at the McQueen Club immediately following the Mass.
