Obituary for Mr. George Jeffery “Jeff” Sorge George Jeffery “Jeff” Sorge, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Richmond, MA on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Jeff was born June 7, 1944 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, the son of George Joseph Sorge and Dorothy Stanborough Tudge. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Laura Costello Sorge.

He is survived by his four daughters—Nita Radtke (Bill), Kimberlee Rios (Lazaro), Leigh Henley and Lindsay Sorge—and a stepdaughter, Laurel Flynn, his siblings—Allyson Sorge (Ed Pollack), David Tudge (Kristi) and Christopher Tudge (Anita Rayburn), 6 grandchildren, 3 nephews and a great niece and nephew. Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Boston University, where he was actively involved in the Crew Team, and a law degree from Syracuse University, passing the Bar Admissions in New York and Massachusetts. He worked for the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, in Hempstead, NY, from July 1969 through retirement in 2011.

In February 1973 he was appointed Bureau Chief of the District Court Bureau, where he was responsible for the training and development of hundreds of public defenders who worked at the Society and was respected by judges, prosecutors and the defense bar. In addition to his outstanding supervision and leadership of the District Court Bureau, Jeff had the opportunity to argue McGinnis v. Royster, 410 US 263 (1973) on December 11, 1972, before the United States Supreme Court. Jeff was an avid skier and a Killington Ski Ambassador for many years.

He also enjoyed biking, hiking, sailing, cooking, traveling and doing odd jobs around the house, including building a weekend cabin in Sheffield, MA from the ground up. Jeff loved Bluegrass music and annually attended the Grey Fox Festival in Ancram, NY. Funeral Notice: A memorial service will be held over Thanksgiving weekend.
