Gerald Loyd Stephens, age 84, known to his friends and family as “Jerry”, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 14, 2018 while a patient at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis, January 11, 1934 to Paul and Anise (Schroer) Stephens. Jerry was one of 12 students in the 1952 graduating class at Bowling Green High School.

He was also a member of the Cast Iron Seat Collectors Association. He was a faithful member of The Friendly Open Bible Community Church. He was a charter member, and the first Sunday School Superintendent.
He also held other offices throughout the years. He also enjoyed reciting poetry for the congregation. He enjoyed reading his Bible and knew his Bible well.
Jerry was proud to serve his country. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 with a Clay City boy by the name of Don Fritz. The pair went through basic training together.
Jerry was sent to California, and Don to Germany. When Jerry got out of the service, he went to Don’s home place to obtain his address in Germany. A young lady by the name of Rosemary answered the door.
Jerry never got Don’s address, but he did get the young lady. He ended up marrying Rosemary on August 30, 1958. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Rosemary (Fritz).
He is also survived by one sister, Norma Gene Benson of Terre Haute, children, Kathleen (Jeff) Broadfoot of Indianapolis, Dianna Stephens of Bowling Green, Keith (Margaret) Stephens of Hammond, Lori Stephens of Bowling Green, and Karol Stephens of Bowling Green. Grandchildren Kristin (Jarred) Brodie of Bowling Green, Matthew (Missy) Broadfoot of Chicago, Nathan (Katie) Broadfoot of Bloomington, and Jenny Broadfoot of Indianapolis. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Audrey Fritz.
He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and her husband, Carol and Bob Minger, infant brother, Kenneth Stephens, brothers-in-law Ernie Sheese, Emery Benson, Mel Fritz, and Don Fritz and his wife, Thelma Jo Fritz. Services will take place on, Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Friendly Open Bible Community Church with Evangelist Harlan Barnett officiating.
Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seedline International 2747 US HWY 40 Brazil, Indiana 47834.
