Geraldine “Jerri” Elizabeth Brown July 11, 1944 – March 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Geraldine “Jerri” Elizabeth Brown, 74, of Newberry, died Tuesday afternoon March 12, 2019 at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette. Born July 11, 1944 in Grand Rapids, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Carey) Joyce, Jerri was a graduate of Grand Valley State University in Allendale and Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Jerri was employed as a social worker for various companies in addition to the State of Michigan for several years until her retirement.

A resident of Newberry area since 1997, Jerri resided several miles north of Newberry in the Pine Stump/Deer Park area roughing the north county in the woods until 2010 when her and Jim moved to town and had been a resident since. Jerri was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, the Newberry Elks Lodge #1705 and the American Legion Post #74 Ladies Auxiliary both of Newberry. Jerri was well known and well liked in the community and had a wide range hobbies, interests which provided great appreciation to many of her friends and acquaintances.

She was an avid knitter, reader and voracious follower of the news. She had a great sense of humor, loved people, was very proud of her Irish Heritage and St. Patrick’s Day was her absolute favorite holiday. In addition to her parents, Jerri is preceded in death by her siblings William Joyce and Marianna Wheeler.

Survivors include her loving husband, James, of Newberry; daughter Julie (Eric) Block of Rockford and grand-daughter Anna Burpee of Rockford. Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Friday March 22, 2019 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with Fr.
