Obituary for Mrs. Gilda Lander Mrs. Gilda M. Lander, 92, of Pittsfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at home. Born in Gloversville, NY on March 25, 1926 the daughter of Antonio and Anna Cangiano Papa, she was a graduate of Gloversville High School. In 1946 Gilda moved to Pittsfield after meeting her husband while away on a weekend trip with friends.

In addition to being a Homemaker, she worked in the kitchen at Highland School for many years. She then worked at Berkshire Bank from where she retired in the late 1980s. She was a communicant of St. Charles Church.

Mrs. Lander was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, William A. Lander, whom she married on November 24, 1946; he passed away on October 30, 2016. She is survived by her two children, Anne Larrow and her husband Paul and William D. Lander and his wife Linda all of Pittsfield; 4 grandchildren, Paul A. Larrow, Ashley Malumphy, Jennifer Hopkins and William J. Lander and 6 great grandchildren. Mrs. Lander, often called Jill, was a delight to everyone she met.

Every person became family as soon as she met them. She always offered Lifesavers to waitresses, bank tellers, receptionists, and clerks. She was a very genuine person who made others feel good about themselves.

Her wish was to live out her life in her beloved home. This was made possible with the invaluable help of HospiceCare In The Berkshires, their wonderful nurses and caregivers, and 3 compassionate women, Donna, Sandy, and Peggy, who cared for her overnight. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Gilda M. Lander will be private.

Burial will be alongside her husband in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Berkshire Humane Society, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, in her memory.
