Glen Hammon McEntire August 19, 1931 — July 22, 2018 Glen Hammon McEntire passed away July 22nd at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born in Ogden to Horace A. and Ethel Hammon McEntire. He was reared in Ogden and attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ogden High School in 1949.
During his high school days he was active in choir and athletics. He made many life-long friends there. During his high school years he was a lifeguard at a city pool where he and his best friend Larry Price put on water shows demonstrating their swimming/diving abilities.
They were comedians making everyone laugh with their routines. After a year at Weber College where he played varsity basketball, studies were interrupted by the Korean War. Glen served in the United States Air Force where he provided entertainment and activities for the troops.
He won talent shows with his comic routines. He served at a number of places including a base in the Aleutians Islands (Shemya, Alaska) and was discharged October 31, 1954. Upon his return to Utah he renewed studies at Weber College.
On May 12, 1955 he married his sweetheart Patricia Penrod. Together they worked hard while he completed his studies at Utah State and to raise a family. They settled in Roy, Utah for many years.
Later they moved to Clinton and eventually to St. George. Glen retired from the Weber School District as a school principal and worked as a licensed tax preparer and financial advisor. He was sentimental and practical at the same time.
He brought families together for reunions and especially loved organizing Ogden High School Class of 1949 reunions. He loved those friends dearly. He talked about a 70th year class reunion the day before he passed away.
He enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful adventures by car, motorcycle, motorhome, airplane and boat. Family and friends have many wonderful memories of those special times together. Glen was always willing to help others, often with difficult and challenging situations.
He gave of himself, his time and his finances. He respected others and their privacy and supported them through it all. Pat was by his side every step of the way.
He was active in the LDS Church and served many positions. He and his wife Pat served a mission at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Kenneth, and sisters Berniece and Darlene.
He is survived by his wife Pat of 63 years, and their children Peggy (Mark) Stevens and Bruce (Betty) McEntire, eight grandchildren and eighteen great- grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary in Roy, Utah on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Services at Myers Mortuary on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 1 pm.
