Gordon Ray Flax, 91, of South Charleston, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018. Gordon was born September 1, 1927 to Ward and Oletha (Morningstar) Flax. He graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1945 and attended The Ohio State University.

He was widely known in Clark County and the Ohio agricultural communities for his dedication and support. He was involved in many local, state, and national agricultural organizations related to agriculture, 4-H, and community. His leadership roles included serving as President and executive director of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association and president and Manager of the Clark County Fair, and advisor of the Premium Strivers 4-H Club.

Gordon was elected Clark County Commissioner in 1988 and served two terms. He was proud of Clark County and its history, people and diversity. Gordon loved to travel with Mary, especially enjoying agricultural tours.

He was happiest at home in Clark County farming with his sons. In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary; brother-in-law, Willard Stickney; brother-in-law, G. James Agle, sister-in-law, Catherine Agle and great granddaughter, Kiley Nicole Flax. Gordon is survived by four children, G. Richard (Peggy) Flax, Emily (Eugene) Little, Marcia A. Flax, and Jay (Jill) Flax; ten grandchildren, Gregory (Holly) Flax, Melanie Wilt, Cindy (Thomas) Brown, Kevin Flax, Justin (Kim) Flax, Jeremy (Marissa) Flax, Jennifer (Pete) Bollinger, Eric (Maria) Little, Megan (Nathan) Quist, and Janet (Jacob) Massie; sixteen great grandchildren Ryan Flax, Andrew Flax, Lauren Flax, Jordan Flax, Jayse Flax, Lane Flax, Reese Flax, Jacob Flax, CJ Wilt, Addie Wilt, Ava Bollinger, Vella Bollinger, Cade Brown, Camden Brown, Parker Little, and Mila Quist; one sister, Norma Jean Stickney, brother-in-law, John (Carolyn) Agle, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Plattsburg United Church of Christ with Pastors Dennis Moritz and Jeff Woodroof officiating. Burial will be in Plattsburg Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Bluebird London for their kindness and compassion.
