Obituary of Gustav Ecklund G. William “Bill” Ecklund, 93, recently of Newport, NC and previously a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, NC. Born on June 9th, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Gustav and Karen (Johnson) Ecklund. Bill married Ruth Post in 1947 in Freeport, NY and Ruth predeceased him on February 21, 2006.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was a life member of the American Legion. For many years, Bill worked as a Supervisor of Staff Engineering for New York Telephone, based out of Manhattan, NY. He is survived by his son, Gary Ecklund of Newport, NC; his grandchildren, Lauren Ecklund, Lynette Ecklund, Leah Kane, Gabriel Ecklund, Shane Ecklund, and Brittney Ecklund; seven great grandchildren; along with extended family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Bill was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Peterson; a brother Wallace Ecklund; and a son Glenn Ecklund. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, April 16th, 2018 from 2 – 4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Red Hook, NY.
