Hazel Lee Duff August 07, 1922 – March 23, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Hazel Lee (Virden) Duff, 96 of McAlester died Saturday March 23, 2019 at a local nursing center. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday March 26, 2019 at the McAlester Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiated by Bishop Spencer Hovey. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester.

Pallbearers will be: Ty Williams, Scott Easley, Seth Easley, Travis Williams and Wendell Brewer, Jr. Hazel was born August 7, 1922 to William Oscar and Flossie Ann (Jones) Virden in Quinton, Oklahoma. She attended and graduated from Quinton School. She married Norwood Duff January 6, 1941 in Wilburton.

They lived in McAlester and Sand Springs where Norwood worked at a glass plant, before moving to Blocker in 1965 where they owned and operated the Blocker Store for 23 years. Hazel resided in Blocker for 30 years. She moved to Krebs in 1997.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. She taught Sunday school class and held offices and helped with the Relief Society. She lived in Ada from 1957-1959 where she helped to establish the church in Ada.

Hazel liked to cook for the family and she enjoyed ceramics, swing, needlework, scrap booking, reading books and magazines. She also enjoyed playing dominoes and cards. She played cards with Norwood, Billie and Eugene.

Hazel liked to fish with her friend, Nancy Jameson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Oscar Virden and Flossie Ann Virden; her husband, Norwood Duff; grandson, Chad Duff; great grandson, Jaylon Kerns; sisters, Nowassa Folson, Virginia Martin, Wanda King and a brother, Emerson Virden. Hazel is survived by daughter, Vicki Williams and husband, Burke of Krebs; son, Michael Duff and wife, Sheila of McAlester; grandchildren, Scott Easley and wife, Patricia of McAlester, Ty Williams and wife, Sarah of Krebs, Travis Williams of Krebs, Julie Padgett and husband, Glenn of McAlester, Carrie Duff of McAlester; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Billie Thompson of Texas and other family members and friends.
