Obituary for Helen Varani Dateline Columbus Helen Varani , passed away peacefully on Sunday January 6, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Born in Brooklyn NY, she lived in Staten Island before retiring to Columbus NJ. Helen was employed at Lehman Brothers as an Assistant Vice President.
She retired in 1996 after 20 plus years of dedicated service. One of her fondest memories, was closing the New York Stock Exchange in 1991 in honor of her two sons who were serving in Operation Desert Storm. A proud parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, she was an avid NY Yankees fan.
Helen enjoyed bowling, bocce ball and traveling with her friends from Four Seasons. But her greatest joy in life was her family. An avid cook, she will be remembered most for her warmth, hospitality, and Italian American cooking.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Natalie Malchiodi, she is predeceased by her husband, Eugene Varani, her brothers, Benny and Johnny Malchiodi, and her sister, Gina Rigolini. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen J. and Andrea Varani, Peter J. and Sveva Varani, her grandchildren, Ben, Ethan, Marisa, Vania and Alex, her sister, Mary Giffone, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 11th, 2019 11:00am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown NJ 08505.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2:00~4:00pm & 7:00 to 9:00 pm and on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery Hamilton.
