Ivan S. Vanoven November 25, 1932 – February 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Ivan S. Vanoven, 86, of Spencer Rd. , Columbus, Pa. , died Sunday, February 24, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, Pa.

He was born November 25, 1932 in Potter Valley, Ca. , a son of the late Salvia Vanoven and Vivian L. Thornton Vanoven Schultz. Ivan was raised and educated in Potter Valley, Ca.

As a young man, he joined the U. S. Armed Forces, he served with the U. S. Navy and retired from the U. S. Air Force. While serving, Ivan was awarded the United Nations Service Medal and Ribbon, Korean Service Medal and Ribbon and the National Defense Medal. Following his honorable discharge and retirement from the military service, Ivan worked in the oil industry, some of that time as a Salesman for Amsoil.

He had lived in several cities before settling in Columbus, Pa. , in the mid 1980’s. He worked for five years as a traveling salesman for the Al Xander Company before retiring from there.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Council #425 in Corry and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 5958 in Titusville. Ivan enjoyed golfing, fishing and going to the Corry Senior Center to play cards. He also had an interest in the Republican National Presidential Advisory Board and was a member of the Patriot Circle and Republican National Committee.

Ivan is survived by a daughter and was preceded in death by a son. In addition to his parents and son, Ivan was preceded by his previous wife, Dorothy M. (Skeets) Vanoven; a step-daughter, Jackie Dobson; step-son, Jerry Long; a sister, Irene Hiatt; and a brother, Francis “Mickey” Vanoven. Along with his daughter, Ivan is survived by his wife, Cecilia M. Fuhrer Solties Vanoven, whom he married March 17, 2017 in Corry, Pa.

; a step-daughter, Debi Ahl and her husband Jeff of Girard, Pa. ; three step-sons, James Sutton of Corry, Pa, Robert Sutton and his wife Diane of Columbus, Pa. , and John R. Long and his wife Sondra of Sugar Grove, Pa.

; and a sister, Patricia Shackford of Sequim, Wa. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa.

, on Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm. The Knights of Columbus Council #425 will conduct at prayer service at 5:15 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 203 W. Washington St., Corry, Pa.

, on Thursday at 10 am. Rev. D. G. Davis will officiate.
