Obituary for James D. “Jim” Underwood James D. “Jim” Underwood, 90 of Hurricane went home to be with his Lord, Monday January 7, 2019. Born February 14, 1928 in Long Branch, WV, Jim was a son of the late Tazwell and Lucinda “Dollie” Underwood. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his daughter Connie Ann Underwood and all seven of his siblings.

Jim served his country in the United States Army and was in the reserves for the United States Air Force, was a volunteer for Hospice, and retired after 33 years from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church and sang in their choir. He loved his family, his church and his Lord.

His hobby was teaching square dancing and calling dances. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Underwood of Hurricane; his children, Sherri Lee Underwood Johnson (John) of Greenville, SC; many nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday January 12, 2019 at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Hurricane, with Pastor John Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Sugar Creek cemetery, Gassaway, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 3926 Teays Valley Road Hurricane WV 25526, or to Hospice care at 1606 Kanawha Blvd.
