James Edward Cope January 29, 1936 – February 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card James Edward Cope of Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning at home. He was 83. Born Jan.

29, 1936 in Barnard, Indiana, he was the son of James Ralph Cope and Juanita Edward Cope. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1955 and served his country in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960 as a jet engine mechanic. He married Susan Weliver Everett on July 4, 1984.

She survives. Jim worked at California Pellet Mill over 30 years. Previously, he was with the first radio station in Crawfordsville, WBBS, out of the First Baptist Church on Walnut Street.

He was a member of Whitesville Christian Church. He was a self-taught harmonica player and was first chair of America with the baritone sax in 1954. He was a member of the Sunshine Chorus, the 50+ club at New Market and enjoyed photography and fishing.

Surviving family includes: wife, Susan Cope; three sons, Larry (Barbara) Pettit, James W. Cope, Rudy Cope; brother, Donald (Lois) Cope; step-children, Kevin (Teresa) Everett, Kimberly (Nick) Ajayi, Troy (Ruth) Everett; grandchildren, Miranda, Morgan, Blake, Annie, Adam, Logan, Tegan, Tara, Ellen, Ethan, Jennifer; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Stephen Cope, sister, Sheryl Cope, step-son, Tim Everett. Services with military rites will be Thursday, Feb.

7 at Whitesville Christian Church at 1 PM, led by Pastor Mike Whitacre. Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery.
