Obituary for Mr. James R. Coughlin James Richard Coughlin, 89, of Pittsfield and Bonita Springs, FL died on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Mt Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born in Pittsfield on February 8, 1929, son of the late Paul J and Katherine Starr Coughlin, Jim was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He served in the Army with the Japanese Occupation Forces from July 1946- November 1947.
Jim worked in the power transformer test department at General Electric for forty years, and had a ten year partnership with Robert O’Brien Contracting. He also owned and operated an independent garage door installation and repair service in Berkshire County. James was pre-deceased by his wife Marilyn T. McMahon Coughlin (11/2/91), his parents Paul and Katherine Coughlin, parents-in-law Joseph and Marcella McMahon, his sister Jeanne Bushey, brother David Coughlin, brother-in-law Albert White, and daughters Joan Elizabeth Whittington and Maureen Coughlin.
Besides his companion Barbara Smith, he is survived by his beloved children and their spouses Marilyn J. Hickey (Michael), Peter J. Coughlin (Sheila Dwyer) all of Pittsfield, Ellen K. Lomaglio (Alexander) and Karen A. Tibbetts (Gary) all of Lenox; his sisters Carolyn White of Albany, NY, Mary K. O’Brien (Robert) of Pittsfield, and Paula Byrdy (Harold) of Lanesborough; his brothers Thomas Coughlin (Linda) of Charlton and Michael Coughlin (Carmen) of Mountain View, CA, and his brother-in-law Edward McMahon (Julie). He also leaves his grandchildren Tara Rochelo, Audra Butman, Patrick and Christopher Coughlin, Bridget Cooley, Joseph Whittington, Michael and Eric Lomaglio and Emily and Mathew Tibbetts. In addition, he leaves many treasured nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends.
Jim’s family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to BMC, the staff at Mt Greylock ECF, HospiceCare in the Berkshires and BHS. Funeral Notice: Calling hours for James R. Coughlin will be Friday evening, May 4, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 9 AM St. Joseph’s Church, 414 North Street, Pittsfield.
