Obituary for James Steven Hobbs James Steven Hobbs age 64, of Whitewood, Virginia passed away, on Wednesday, September 05, 2018 at his home following a brief illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of Alice Bernice Wright Hobbs and the late, Rex Hobbs. He was a 1972 graduate of Whitewood High School, worked 20 years in the mines for Hobbs Brothers Coal Mining and later worked for US Gypsum as a sheet rocker.

He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. James had attended the Shelter Free Will Baptist Church, everyone loved to listen to his wonderful bass voice, as it carried throughout the church. He enjoyed gardening and was well known in the Whitewood community for raising cane and holding an annual Molasses stir off where the community gathered to participate.

He was a lifetime resident of the area and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by: His wife, Carmie Keen Hobbs of Whitewood, VA Mother, Alice Bernice Wright Hobbs of Raven, VA Daughter, Sherry Ann Hobbs of Whitewood, VA Son, Rex Henderson Hobbs and wife, Holly of Dubach, LA Sisters: Joan Robin Hobbs of VA Mary Stevens of TN Brothers: David Hobbs of VA Danny Hobbs of VA Grandchildren, Jaydon Davis, Adalynn Hobbs, Xander Lee Hobbs The family will host a Celebration of Life visitation, from 1-4 pm on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia.
