JAMES SKIRVIN James W. “Jim” Skirvin, 80, of Quincy, passed away at 3:07 a.m. Thursday (January 10, 2019) in Blessing Hospital. Born August 26, 1938 in Rutledge, Missouri, Jim was the son of Harvey W. and Gladys M. Kessler Skirvin. He married Carol Miller on September 4, 1959 in the LaPrairie United Methodist Church.

She survives. Jim was a member of Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church and the Melrose Chapel Methodist Men. An avid Quincy Blue Devil fan, Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with his family and friends and being part of the “Table of Knowledge” with his coffee buddies at McDonalds.

Jim had been employed at Electric Wheel and worked as a meat cutter at local grocery stores. In 1976 he opened The Butcher Block which he operated until 2004 when he sold the business. Jim most recently has worked as an assistant at Western Illinois Veterinary Clinic in Quincy.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; four children, Cheryl Reed (Jim) of Deltona, FL, Darla Skirvin of Mokane, MO, Andrew Haines of Quincy and John Haines; three brothers, Bill Skirvin (Ruth Ann) of Loveland, CO, Lee Skirvin of Shelbina, MO and Larry Skirvin of Quincy; three sisters, Betty Effland of Shelbina, MO, Dorothy Houston of Shelbina, MO and Nancy White of Blue Springs, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Skirvin was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.

Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery in Ursa, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight.
