Mrs. Jean Constance Clement Smith September 1, 1932 – January 8, 2019 Mrs. Jean Constance Clement Smith, of 1230 Springwood Circle, died on January 8, 2019, at Wake Forest/ Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Winston-Salem on September 1, 1932, to the late Troy Rufus Clement and Mable Robinson Clement. She was a life-long resident of Winston-Salem, and attended the 14th Street Elementary School.

She graduated from the Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina in 1951, and then attended North Carolina College at Durham (now North Carolina Central University). Some of her early employment years were at The Bethlehem Center, one of the first daycare facilities for black children in Winston-Salem. In 1966, Jean became employed by the United States Postal Service, and remained a faithful employee until her retirement in 1992.

She had been a resident of Springwood Circle in the Morningside Manor community since 1970. Born: September 1, 1932 Death: January 8, 2019 Jean was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Curry (the Most Reverend Michael B. Curry) of Raleigh, NC, Henri Smith Miller (William H. Miller, Jr.,) of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, William H. Miller, III (Mayumi) of Shizuoka, Japan, Rachel Curry Houston of Raleigh, NC, Nigel Miller (Lonjezo) of Charlotte, NC, Jasmine Miller of Morrisville, NC, Elizabeth Curry of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, cousins, and a dear friend, Mrs. Maurice P. Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. Family visitation will begin at 12:15 p.m. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
