Jerry F. D’Amico November 18, 1934 – February 24, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book Sebastian, FL Jerry F. D’Amico “Loving husband & father” Jerry F. D’Amico, of Sebastian, Florida (formerly from Litchfield, Connecticut) passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2019 while surrounded by his loving wife and friends, after a brave struggle with Leukemia. He was 84. He is survived by his loving wife Rita D’Amico, son, John Anthony (Jennifer) D’Amico, half-sister Nancy (Mike) Cavalieri and several cousins.
Jerry was predeceased by his half-brother Richard D’Amico. Born in Waterbury, CT to the late Gennaro and Antoinette D’Amico, Jerry was raised by his loving father and amazing step-mother, Marge Barrett, who was known to him as mom. He spoke affectionally of his mom (Marge) and credited her as the person who raised him and helped mold his character.
After graduating from Saint Mary’s school, Jerry enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning to Waterbury after the war, he pursued a career as an auto body technician. Later, he founded and established Painters’ Edge Autobody and Industrial Coatings, Inc. His desire to help others and his passion for solving paint problems led him to become the “go to” expert in his industry.
Because of his affiliation with PPG Paint and Coatings and his generosity in donating product to the racing industry, he was fortunate to attend many Indy car races across the US and Canada. Jerry’s involvement in the racing industry led him to meet Bob Cuneo who designed the NASCAR inspired bobsled, the Night Train which won the gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics. This was an exciting time for Jerry as he had supplied the paint for the US Olympic bobsled team for many years.
In his free time, Jerry could often be found enjoying the camaraderie of his friends whether it be at the Elk’s Club, Monthly Mangia Facia Dinners or the bowling alley striving to achieve the perfect 300 game. (He had to settle for 299. ) A lover of sports, Jerry enjoyed cheering on and coaching from the sidelines his favorite teams the Boston Red Sox, the Oakland Raiders and the UConn Women’s basketball team.
Jerry travelled the world with the love of his life, Rita. Aruba became their home away from home for 27 years. They enjoyed spending four weeks there each year and as a result developed many wonderful friendships.
Jerry’s talent for storytelling infused with his unique sense of humor often made him the life of the party. This, along with his warm and loving personality, drew people to him. To know him was to love him and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
Jerry had a wonderful life.
