Born August 1, 1937 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Tank Hairston and Clarice Lanier Hairston. He was married to Irene Griffin Hairston, who survives.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Ronald Hairston of Catlett, VA and Lorenzo Hairston of Manassas, VA; two stepdaughters, Trudie S. Bennett of Alexandria, VA and Venus L. Smith of Eden, NC; one stepson, Anthony C. Smith of Matthews, NC; one sister, Dorothy Barksdale of D anville, VA; one brother, James Edward Hairston (Monice) of Blairs, VA; seven grandchildren, Teara C. Hairston of Charlotte, NC and Bradley Daniel Hairston of Oakland, CA, Corinthian Powell of Morrisville, NC, Taylor Bennett of Eden, NC, Tiffany Smith, Shadae Smith and Derrick Smith all of San Diego, CA; three great-grandchildren, Malachi Bennett of Mebane, NC, Maison Bennett of Lynchburg, VA and Moriah Powell of Morrisville, NC and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11 AM from Loyal Baptist Church with Rev. Emmett Young, Eulogist.

Viewing and Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4-8 PM from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.
