John W. Riggs, 86, of Bradford, previously of Derrick City for 57 years, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Snyder Memorial Health Care Center, Marienville. He was born on June 11, 1932 in Bradford, a son of the late Err and Verna Stull Riggs. He attended Bradford Area Schools.

He enjoyed camping at Hidden Valley in Kianton, NY, spending the winters in Florida for eighteen years and travelling in his motor home for seven years.

He was a mechanic at the former Malone & Mader and Fairway Ford Dealerships; where he was known as the best “transmission man” in town. He was also the chief meter reader for Penelec until his retirement in June 1994. In addition to his wife of 68 years, Marilyn Riggs of Bradford, he is also survived by three daughters, Jacqueline (William) Fargo of Derrick City, Ava (Thomas) McKittrick of Croydon and Rhonda (Rodney) Nesbit of Allen, TX; nine grandchildren, Melissia McKittrick, Brian (Amy) McKittrick, Kelly (James) Kelley, Jennifer (Lee) Mathieson, Scott (Jamie) Fargo, Eric (Rebekah) Nesbit, Adam Nesbit, Brian (Katie) Nesbit and Leslie (Clyde) Schnieder; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by eleven brothers and one sister. A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to the Windsor House at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center, 156 Snyder Memorial Rd, Marienville, PA 16239 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
