Johnny Sylvester Blakeney, Jr, 78, of Red Hawk Terrace, Bladensburg, MD passed away Saturday, February 16, at Washington Adventist Hospital. He was born August 31, 1940 in Rowan County the late Johnny Blakeney, Sr. and the late Margaret Neely Lowery. Johnny was a graduate of Aggrey Memorial High School and served in the US Army.

He retired from IBM in Washington DC. Johnny was a former member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Services will be held Monday, February 25, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, 923 Indiana St, Kannapolis NC.

Visitation will be at 12:00 – 1:00 PM with funeral services following at 1:00 PM. Burial will be Tuesday, February 26, at 9:00 AM at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lowery, Walter Lowery; sister, Valarie Lowery and grandparents, Walter and Ella Neely. Those left to cherish fond memories include his companion, Jean McKenzie of the home; four daughters, Cheryl R. Smith of Concord, Maria Shipp (Harry), Candia White, Jonet Thompson all of Kannapolis; a son, Dolan Smith (Nancy) of Salisbury; three brothers, John Blakeney (Veda) of Maryland, Benjamin “Benny” Blakeney (Mary) of Concord, Jerry Cowan (Debra) of Mooresville; five sisters, Betty Jordan (Henry) of Kannapolis, Ella Lowery of China Grove, Carolyn Lowery of Salisbury, Sandra Rucker of Landis, Amy Cathcart (John) of Somersville, SC; foster brother Frederick Gibson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
