Jones “Jay”‘s Obituary Marion, VA Jones V. “Jay” Smith age 74, passed away on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at his home in Marion, VA. Jay was born November 14, 1944 to Harry V. Smith and Lina Mae Gross. As a young man Mr. Smith worked as a logger for his father and went on to landscape work along interstate 81 with Fairfax Nursery.

Later, went to work for Harwood Manufacturing in the shipping department before becoming a truck driver for them until their closing. Jay began to drive for CPC Leasing in Atkins, VA and finished his career with Camrett Logistics in Rural Retreat, VA where he had the honor of hauling the U.S. Capital Christmas tree and was awarded with a million mile safe driving award. Mr. Smith’s greatest joy was truck driving.

He loved meeting and making friends with all the people he met. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nona “Pat” Trail, and brother in laws Roy “Ran” Poston, & Hobert J. Welch. Survivors include his three children, Mark Smith and wife Marcia of Lynchburg, VA, Amy Smith-Byrd and husband Shawn of Marion, VA, Ann Hutton and husband Doug of Marion,VA; grandchildren, Amber Cox and husband Chris, Ian Howard; great grandson, Chance Cox; sisters Carolene Poston, Phyllis Welch; brothers, Charles (Bud) Smith, Harry D. (Cork) Smith, Ronald (Mike) Smith; brother in law, Arnold G. Trail; former wife, Carol J. Smith; special friend, Brenda Osborne and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tabatha Zilles and especially Karen Parris for all the care given to Mr. Smith. Funeral services will be held at 7PM Tuesday December 11, 2018 at the Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Bob Surber officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 — 7:00 prior to services.

Graveside services will be held at 11AM Wednesday at Rose Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Walker’s Creek Presbyterian Church or to Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to he family at www.
