Obituary for Joseph E. Spence II Joseph E. Spence, II, 74, of Mountville, formerly of York, died peacefully, Friday, October 12, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in York on June 23, 1944, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Carolyn M. (Horn) Spence. Joe was a 1962 graduate of William Penn Senior High.
He began his working career in men and women’s clothing, becoming a district manager for Fashion Bug. He went on to a career in auto sales both for Beasley Ford and Griffith Honda. Later in life, he was a para transit driver for White Rose Ambulance.
Joe loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed listening to oldies on the radio. He loved to dance, and according to Joe himself, was very good at it. Joe is survived by his daughters, Veronica Sue Clark and her husband, Dr. Paul Clark of Boyd, MD, Jennifer Ann Diaz and her husband, Marlon Diaz of York, and Tiffany Suzanne Hackler and her husband, Adam Hackler of York.
He is also survived by his loving companion, Sarah “Sally” Welch of Mountville, and his 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Spence Nelson and his beloved grandson, Marlon Diaz. A funeral service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, with Chaplain Sara Wiegner officiating.
Private interment in Mount Rose Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
