Obituary for Joseph “Joe” A. Poff Joseph A. Poff, 86, of York, PA, died October 3, 2018 at Manor Care Health Services-Kingston Court. He was the husband of Kyula “Kay” (Parker) Poff of York with whom he observed their 64th wedding anniversary on September 4, 2018. Born June 16, 1932 in York, PA, he was the son of the late George W. and Lottie (Shearer) Poff.
Joe was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he served with the 243rd Army Band. He was a 1950 graduate of North York High School and attended the former Thompsons Business Institute. Joe was employed as Postmaster of Airville and later as Superintendent of Mails at the York Post Office, having retired in 1992 with 37 years of employment.
He was a very active longtime member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church. Joe cherished his time with family, especially vacationing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren at the beach. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by a son, Gregg A. Poff and his wife, Tammy of York; a daughter, Jennifer Schuchart and her husband, Tony of York; three grandchildren, Ryan Poff, Andrea Bortner and her husband, Keith and Alison Brown and her husband, Paul; three great grandchildren, Madison Bortner, Peyton Bortner and Easton Poff; two sisters, Marie Cartwright and Ruth Lentz and a brother, Philip Poff.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Poff. A funeral service will be held Monday October 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St. York, PA with his pastor, the Rev. Dennis A. Hummel, officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be held in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Road, York, PA 17402.
