Obituary of Joseph Surace . Joseph (Giuseppe) Surace, age 94, of Bardonia passed away peacefully into God’s loving arms at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Joseph was born (12/24/23) / January 4, 1924 in Palmi, (Prov.

Reggio Calabria) Italy. His is the son of the late Rocco and Vincenza (Barone) Surace. .

He immigrated to the United States July 1956 in Nyack, NY where he lived with his Uncle Bruno and Aunt Jennie Barone. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Teresa Surace, they were married August 24, 1958, and celebrated 58 years of marriage. He is survived by his devoted and loving children, Rocco (Nancy), Vincenza (Rodney) Decort and Frank (Samantha); sisters Rosa, Domenica, Annunziata & in laws Francesca and Giovanni.

His greatest joy in life were his loving grandchildren; Elizabeth M., Joseph J., Joseph P., John, Nicole, Joseph K, Kevin, Matthew, Elizabeth R. and Nari along with his many, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Special thanks to his longtime friend, Abner Torres for helping his engineering projects come to life. Everyone who knew & loved Joseph would always find an open door to gather with a full table to “mangia mangia”.

His sense of humor and storytelling ability was always a joy to listen to; his wisdom will be cherished forever. He was “The Boss”, an engineer, master gardener and chef always working on creative, ingenious projects or recipes that were made with complete and utter love. His motto was “Always love God, love and respect each other and God Bless America”.

The memory of his love, wisdom, humor & compassion will forever live in our hearts. Visitation will be Sunday, June 10th, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm at the Joseph W. Sorce F.H. Inc. 728 West Nyack Rd, West Nyack, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 11th at St. Anthony R.C. Parish Church 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY at 10:00am with entombment to follow at St. Anthony Mausoleum In lieu of flowers donations may be made to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956, St. Anthony’s Church or a charity of your choice.
