Obituary of Berta Miller Berta E. Miller of West Nyack died Sunday, July 1, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born July 2, 1936 in Cali, Colombia to Juan de Dios Mayor and Maria Luisa Mora de Mayor. Berta immigrated to New York City in 1961 to attend New York University.

She met her life-mate Paul DuBois Miller Jr. on July 4, 1961 and they married November 16, 1963 in the Chapel of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. In 1972, Berta and Paul moved to West Nyack where they raised their four children and made many lifelong friends. As a devoted wife and mother, Berta became an American citizen when learning her service as a Girl Scout leader required citizenship.

She shared her love of theater and the opera by working with the Clarkstown Summer Theatre Festival at Clarkstown South High School. These are two simple examples of how Berta engaged with her children and community. She is survived by her husband Paul, her daughters Karen (Robert) Strominger, Andrea (Alan) Hasbrouck, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Mason, her son Paul D. III (Patricia), her grandchildren Jessica (Forest), William, Nathan, and Daniel, her sister Nina and niece Maria Luisa (Gerber), her brothers Lalo (Hanya) and Alberto (Noemi) and a loving extended family.

She is predeceased by her sisters Alicia and Lyda and brothers Ramiro and Jaime. Berta’s life was so full of faith, love and happiness that no more chapters were necessary. Her epilogue is written in the lives of her husband and children and all those who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, July 7 at St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd. , West Nyack, NY 10994 Arrangements were made by the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home (845) 358-4433 www. sorcefuneralhome .
