Obituary of Nicholas Zoda On July 19, 2018, Nicholas L. Zoda passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side. Nicholas was born March 25, 1935 to Rose and Louis Zoda. He graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, NY.

After graduation, he served in the United States Army before becoming a New York City Police Officer; a position he proudly held for 22 years. In 1958 he met Gloria Arees and they married on June 25, 1960. They went on to have six children and moved from Brooklyn to Nanuet, NY in 1973.

While raising a family, he graduated from New York Institute of Technology. After retiring from the Police Department, he worked security for the banking industry, Stouffers Hotel and then became the Assistant Director of Security of SUNY Purchase then later was named the Director before becoming Director of Security of Ramapo College. He was a member of the Rockland County Shields, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Association and the Hudson Valley 1013 Association.

He also worked as a substitute Crossing Guard for the Clarkstown Police Department and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Rockland. Nick was a proud father of six children and even more proud of being a Grandfather to 13 Grandchildren and one Great-Grandchild. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife Gloria of 58 years, his children Marie Monti, Nicholas Jr. and Terry Zoda, Jeannette and James Brown, Joanne and Louis Castaldo, Thomas and Annette Zoda, Patricia and Rudy Zodda.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Steven and his wife Lindsey, Michael, Elizabeth, Katherine, Gregory, Laura, Christopher, Matthew, Mark, Thomas, Kevin, Jacqueline and Great-Grandson Barrett. He is predeceased by his grandson Anthony “Tony” Brown on April 15, 2018 and brothers Vincent and Louis. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. 728 W. Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. Anthony’s Shrine Church, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY 10954. Interment to follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, NY 10977. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
