Juan Jovino Vargas Rios, 88, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Through the mercy and blessing of hospice, Juan was able to pass at his home surrounded by the love and presence of his family. Juan was born in Pimentel-Chidayo, Peru, on September 15, 1930, the son of Marcelino Vargas Mercado and Ines Rios Frias.

He moved from Pimentel to Trujillo and graduated from UNT as a Chemical Engineer. Juan then worked in the fishing industry as a chemical engineer. After many years, when Juan went to get his family in Pimentel so they could move together to Chimbote, it was the happiest experience of his life.

Juan was always a family man, and his father was one of his greatest inspirations in life, dedicating his life to his family and being a great dad. He also lived a life with no regrets, choosing to live life without doing wrong by people so all would be okay. Juan enjoyed many things in life including going to the beach, arroz con chancho (rice with pork) and music.

In fact, his children remember how one of the first things he used to buy when he got his paycheck was a record. Most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. He would like his family to remember him as a man who lived a life with purpose and to always remember his words, “Stay together, do not fight and do not ever stop talking to each other.

People get used to not talking to others, and remember to take care of mom”. Juan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mercedes; his children: Mirko (wife Martha), Patricia (husband Raymond, Rocio, Cecilia (husband Ruben) and Juan; his grandchildren: Silvia (husband Victor), Mirko, Adam, Juan Miguel (wife Matlyn), Stephen, Pedro, James, Marcela, Juan Andres, Natalie, Kelly, Garret, Gabriel, Eva, Juan Manuel, Briela, Cesar and Dania; his great grandchildren: Victoria, Alia, Victor, Aaron, Zoie and Aurora; and his siblings: Nestor, Virginia (husband Carlos), Magdalena, Catalina, Delia, Jose and Rissi.
