William Harold Searles, Jr, 86, of Charlotte, died Friday, February 15, 2019, at Carillon Health in Mint Hill, NC. Bill was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 23, 1932, the son of William and Leona Searles Sr He grew up in Providence and when his country called on him for service during the Korean War, he served faithfully in the US Army.

He was honorably discharged as a Corporal and returned to Rhode Island. At Pawtucket Congregational Church, he married Ms. Sally Rae Turner. She preceded him in death in March of 2000.

He graduated from Bryant University and worked as an accountant, most recently for the Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois. He was also a Master Mason with the Jenks F. & A.M. in Pawtucket, RI. In 1997, they bought a home in Alpine Village in Charlotte and in 1998, they made Charlotte their permanent home.

Continuing his life of service to others and using his God given talents for numbers, Bill was the Treasurer for the Alpine Village Homeowners Club as well. Most off all, Bill enjoyed the time spent with family and friends and he will be missed by all who knew him. Bill is survived by his daughter, Caroline (Lawrence) Hawse of Matthews, NC; a son, Peter (Teresa) Searles of Perryville, MD; and six grandchildren: Bryan, Christopher, Candice, Lawrencia, Clayton and Megan.

Bill is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Rae. Bill’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them.

A private burial is being scheduled for this summer at the family plot in Millbury, Mass.
