Obituary for Judy Kay Keen (Hurd) Mrs. Judy Kay Hurd Keen, age 65, of Richlands, Virginia passed away Tuesday (December 4, 2018) at her home. Born February 2, 1953 in the Thompson Creek section of Honaker, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Margie Blankenship Hurd. A lifelong resident of the area, she enjoyed working puzzle books; watching Christian TV and spending time talking to her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Keen and two brothers, Jackie Hurd and Jimmy Hurd. Survivors include her caregiver and best friend of twenty-six years, Susie Shepherd, who was like the daughter she never had; and her husband, Tim L. Shepherd, who was her nephew, of Raven, Virginia; grandson at heart, Tim L. Shepherd, Jr; two sisters, Mildred Barton of Honaker, Virginia and Ethel Thompson of Messley County, Virginia; one brother, Darrell Hurd of Honaker, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family and friends who will miss her deeply also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Michael Justice officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday at the Boyd-Davis Cemetery at Raven, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Saturday to travel in the funeral procession.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Shepherd; staff and residents of Fairfax Court Apartment Complex; staff and workers of AASC and Pace Program. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in the form of donations to the Judy Keen Memorial Fund c/o Honaker Funeral Home P.O. Box 1620 Honaker, VA 24260.
