Obituary for Mavis Honaker Mrs. Mavis Honaker, age 85, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (February 20, 2019) in a Kingsport, Tennessee hospital. Born June 19, 1933 in Dickenson County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Willie F. and Lacy O’Quinn Compton. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, she had attended Valley View Freewill Baptist Church and Free Christian Church.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gardening, but most of all spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Robert Lee Honaker, two sons, Kenneth Lee Honaker and Timothy Mark Honaker, and three siblings, Bill Compton, Don Compton, and Connie Viers. Survivors include two children, Teresa Newberry of Swords Creek and Sandy Presley of Honaker; four grandchildren, Chris Newberry, Jessica Watts, Dustin Presley, and Misty Sample; four great-grandchildren, Madison Newberry, Urijah Watts, Gabriel Watts, and Claire Sample; three siblings, Bob Compton, Walker Compton, and Peggy Gehrke; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Claude Rose officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia.
Interment will follow in Russell Memory Cemetery in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Friday.
