Obituary for L. Russell MacDonald North Hampton – L. Russell MacDonald, 69, of North Hampton, passed away peacefully July 6, 2018 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover. He was born April 28, 1949 in Milton, MA a son of the late Lawrence Woodrow MacDonald and Marjorie (Nichols) MacDonald Perrine. Russ graduated from Weston, MA High School and Keene State College.
He taught industrial arts, auto shop and driver education at Winnacunnet High School from 1971-1978. He also owned and operated MacDonald Home Construction 1979 to present, performing multiple carpentry skills building and remodeling homes. Russ had a passion for all things “explosive” and this was exemplified as a professional fireworks technician for Atlas Display Fireworks for over 40 years.
He would take time off from his construction business to shoot fireworks during the Fourth of July, for multiple cities and towns; New Year’ Eve Celebrations, at various ski mountains in New Hampshire and Maine; the Ritchie McFarland Fashion Show/Fundraiser; and multiple requests from area residents to celebrate birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc. , with a personalized display. Additionally, Russ would spend many hours in his barn creating over 30 working replicas of Civil War cannons.
He was a member of the New Hampshire Pyrotechnics Association and enjoyed setting off his multiple cannons and remote boats rigged with fireworks, at the club shoots. He was a member of the Seacoast Corvette Club, enjoyed all water activities on his 3 boats “Purple Panda,” “Marjorie” and “Run Around Sue”, Hobie Cat Sailing, snowmobiling, snow skiing, and riding his Goldwing motorcycle He shared 44 years of marriage with his wife Susan Sallee (Rader) MacDonald. They were friends at Weston High School, dated when each was home from college and he married the girl over the hill in 1974.
They lived in Hampton while Russ taught until he built their home of 42 years in North Hampton. In addition to his wife, family members include his son Robert MacDonald and his wife Elizabeth of Portsmouth, his daughter, Sandra Prenger and her husband Jonathan of Newfields, four grandchildren, Claire and Susie MacDonald, Jackson and Bradley Prenger, his sister, Joyce Endee and her husband Charles of Gilford, mother-in-law Sallee Rader; sister-in-law Sandra Manshel and her husband David; brothers-in-law Thomas Rader and his wife Stacie; James Rader and his wife Holly; 6 nieces and 4 nephews. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday, July 13, 2108 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, July 14, 2018 in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family asks that if you attend the visiting hours or Celebration of Life services and you have a picture of Russ that you would like to share, that you bring it and it will be posted on a display board.
