Larry Yazel passed away on January 4th with his loving family at bedside. He was born on May 21st, 1937 in Plymouth, Indiana, the only child of Blaine and Mabel Yazel. He graduated from Bourbon High School in 1955, serving as president of his class.

He went on to graduate with honors from Ball State University in 1959, and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He spend his career as an educator, eventually getting his Doctorate in Education from Purdue University. After spending his career in several locations, he served the last 14 years as Superintendent of Mt.

Vernon Community School Corporation in Fortville, Indiana. He also served as interim Superintendent at Shenandoah and Pike Township School Corporations. Larry was involved in many aspects of his profession and community including the Hancock County Board of Health, the Hancock County Foundation, and President of GLASCUS.

He also was the organizer for numerous graduate events for his Sig Ep chapter and maintained close relationships with countless fraternity brothers. Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fortville, Indiana as well as the First Presbyterian Church in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was an avid fisherman, making numerous trips to Canada, as well as in his retirement residence of Bonita Springs.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lori Yazel, as well as his son Dr. Eric Yazel, daughter in law Vicki Yazel, and grandchildren Blaine Yazel and Delaney Yazel. Friends may call on January 9, 2019 from 4 to 6 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. A celebration of Larry’s life will begin at 6:00 pm January 9, 2019 at the funeral home.
